Exch 2007 PrepareAD Error:  The requested object has a non-unique identifier and cannot be retrieved.
I have a server that is running 2003 SBS w/SP2. Exchange 2003 has been up and running completely fine for about 1 year. I recently purchased another server and installed Server 2008 standard x64. I did all windows updates to it and installed Exchange 2007 x64 SP1. I did not get any errors or experience any difficulties during installation. I rebooted the server and went into the exchange managment console and I got the following error: Code Snippet --------------------------------------------------------Microsoft Exchange Error--------------------------------------------------------The following error(s) were reported while loading topology information: get-receiveconnectorFailedError:The Exchange group with GUID "6c01d2a7-f083-4503-8132-789eeb127b84" was not found. This group was automatically created during Exchange Setup, but has been subsequently removed. --------------------------------------------------------OK-------------------------------------------------------- So after not being able to find a solution to this I figured I would uninstall and reinstall exchange. When I go to remove exchange 2007 it says that there are public folder replicas that need to be removed. So I tired to remove the replicas by moving the replicase to the 2003 exchange server but I get the following error message: Code SnippetThe information store could not be opened. The logon to the Microsoft Exchange server computer failed.MAPI 1.0 ID no: 80040111-0286-00000000ID no: C1050000 Exchange System Manager I know something major is going on so after research people have suggested running setup /PrepareAD on the exchange 2007 server. So I do that and I get the following error message: Code SnippetThe requested object has a non-unique identifier and cannot be retrieved. Can anyone help me on this?

I wanted to post how I fixed my problem for other peoples benefit: So i was able to finally remove my failed exchange installation. Here's what I did: (I'll just list the bullet points below)Using ADSIedit I deleted the exchange administrative group that was created by exchange 2007Deleted the registry folder HKLM/Software/Microsoft/ExchangeOpened IIS and deleted anything under Default Web Site that dealt with ExchangeStopped all Microsoft Exchange Services and set their startup to ManualRestarted the systemRenamed the Exchange folder located at c:\program files\microsoft\exchange to OLDDeleted the folder located at c:\exchangesetuplogs(one other thing I had to do using ADSIedit was navigate to configuration --> services --> microsoft exchange, open its properties and edit the section that said "otherwellknownobjects" and simply click add then apply and ok to clear out the entry. This was done from a Server 2003 machine NOT server 2008 because it wouldn't allow me to edit it--the entry was preventing me from running my next set of command successfully)Removed any services dealing with exchange by using a microsoft program called SC.exeRan the following commands from the command prompt:setup /PrepareLegacyExchangePermissionssetup /PrepareSchemasetup /PrepareADThen I ran the graphic installation of exchange--unfortunately it did not complete successfully but it was able to get me to a point where I could run the uninstallation of Exchange 2007I had to remove the routing groups the installation created by using the exchange system manager under windows 2003 server. (very easy, just locate the connectors that has servername1-servername2 and/or servername2-servername1 and delete them)Then I was able to run the uninstallation with no errors at allNow to be safe I am removing IIS and I will start the installation all over again from scratch.Hope this helps others.
